Counseling Children
Kent Campbell provides counseling services for children age five and older.  He is recognized by his peers as one of the more respected male therapists who works with children and teens.  He works collaboratively with parents to achieve results through child therapy and coaching parents.
Therapy for children can be a marvelous way to help get their development and growth back on track.  Children and teens frequently respond well to meeting with a caring and supportive therapist.  Having time and space to explore their frustrations with a “kid coach” can allow them to heal wounds and learn to thrive.
Parents separating or divorcing frequently find that therapy can help children negotiate these changes with the least amount of trouble.  Kent is Helping Your Child During a Divorceskilled in recognizing the wide range of responses children have to stress and conflict in the family.  He also coaches parents on how to make better decisions for their children during this process.
The good news is that children are resilient – they have an ability to bounce back from adversity.  Therapy helps to ensure that unhealthy patterns learned earlyParent Support Groups in life don’t become ingrained parts of a child’s personality as an adult.  Counseling for children therefore can help ease more potentially painful transitions in adolescence.
Therapy for children looks and sounds different from talk therapy for adolescents and adults.  Children utilize metaphors from play and stories to communicate how their internal world functions and how Counseling Siblingsconflicts arise.  For example, where an adult can talk about an argument, a healthy response for a child might be to recreate the argument with puppets.  Children typically feel much more comfortable keeping the issue one step removed so that it is the puppet or a friend who has a problem.  Play therapy and art therapy help provide an opportunity for a child to express their feelings and find potential solutions to difficult situations.
Kent meets with parents first to obtain background information, then meets with the child for several sessions to do an assessment.  He then meets with both parents again to discuss his hypotheses and choices for moving forward.
